Olivia Baumanis is a photographer whose work to date has focused on themes of family, intimacy, domesticity, and performance through long term projects. Baumanis’ project ‘44a’, was featured in Source Photographic Magazine Summer 2024 and also shown in Angles exhibition, Sao Paulo Brazil. Baumanis holds a BA in Photography from the University of Brighton.

The home environment and the familial relationships within are a significant and continual source of inspiration for Baumanis’ work. Drawing from the different encounters she has within the household, whether that be with family members or the physical environment, Baumanis’ images portray a sense of closeness and normality that many are familiar with.

Her works have explored ways photography can be used as an outlet for personal anxieties and help to creatively externalise negative thoughts.

Analogue photography is a key feature in her practice and works with 35mm, medium format, and large format. One of the outcomes from her project 44a was the design and creation of two photo books, in which she continued and materialised the collaboration with her father by using his welding skills to make the front cover of the book.
